If you wish to find historically accurate lighting click on the Fixture Wizard, answer a few questions and like magic there's pictorial examples of fixtures that are historically correct.
Here's a sample of questions: What is the approximate age of your house? What is the predominant architectural style of your house? Which room are you selecting a fixture for? What is the approximate room size? What is the ceiling height in the room? Then click "Show Me the Light."
Check out the Helpful Hints along the way. The Fixture Wizard can also help verify which fixtures you have that are original.
Rock star Beck is a particular fan of the Rejuvenation website. Have fun and you just might learn a great deal.
Two New Paint Products From Miller Paint
By Tracy Smith
Devine Color® is the brainchild of color consultant Gretchen Schauffler. Frustrated by the decorating paint choices available, she began mixing her own for her remodeling homeowner clients. Her paint mixing experiments won raves and buzz that soon caught the attention of Steve Dearborn, Miller Paint's CEO. Dearborn was so confident of Schauffler's passion for paint they signed a 25-year exclusive sales agreement in late 2000. Miller's chemists were placed at her disposal with no monetary constraints. The result is that the Miller stores are now rolling out the bestselling Devine Color® - with the tagline: "color therapy for the northwest."
Therapy? Schauffler explains, "We all have our childhood memories of what color means to us." Schauffler decided to keep her palette simple. Only 115 colors in the line, these colors are flexible - what she calls "landscapable colors" - to harmonize with the home's furniture, art, and carpeting. Developed with an eye to complement our region's often-depressing weather, Devine's palette neutralizes the gray.
Sales for Devine Color® are growing almost 20 percent a month and there are plans to roll the product out nationally.
Miller Paint also launched this May NW Color®. The NW Color® line is available exclusively at Fred Meyer stores. A new base was developed for NW Color® according to Steve Dearborn, and at this time 20 colors are represented in this line. The new base can also be tinted with the 1400 Millennium colors offered at Fred Meyer. It provides a bold, rich finish along with coverage and washability.
Both of these new products feature a unique way to test your color choices. Devine Color® offers 115 Mini Pouches, and NW Color® has 20 Paint Packets.
An ample test amount of paint is available for both lines at $2.99 each. No need to buy a can of paint to visualize how your room will look.

REACH Community Builders Program
Since 1996 the REACH Community Builders Program has been helping low-income senior and disabled homeowners with basic home repairs. The program uses volunteers, discounted and donated supplies, and contractor expertise to complete work. All repairs are provided to the homeowner at no cost. Homeowners, who are able to, are asked to help out.
Examples of typical jobs include: hand railing and grab bar installation, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, safety lighting, step and porch repairs, yard clean-ups and painting. Workdays are held every other Saturday throughout the year in addition to many weekday projects. A highlight of the program is the annual REACH Paint-a-thon. This year's event will be held on Saturday August 10th. On that date volunteers will paint 15 homes belonging to low-income seniors. REACH will be celebrating the painting of its 120th house at this year's event.
