Gourmet
Cooks, Gourmet Kitchen
Gourmet cooks
are often frustrated with their builder basic kitchens,
especially those who cook for a living and are used to professional
kitchens and equipment.
Skandia Design
and Remodeling customized the new kitchen for Steve and Vonda Scholibo,
restaurateurs and gourmet cooks. Steve likes to experiment with new
recipes and had many requests of the designer, Paul Olson. He wanted
a large spice drawer adjacent to the commercial-style range, and a
knife drawer on the other side to hold his fine cutlery, He also is
used to professional utensils and supplies being at the ready in his
restaurants and wanted similarly efficient storage in his new kitchen.
Paul designed two pull-out storage shelves, tray dividers, cutting
board, and cook book shelves close to the work areas. Crystal Cabinet
Works famous lazy Susan cabinet functions perfectly
for holding the professional pots, pans, and bowls conveniently without
having to stack them onto each other.
Vonda wanted an
island, a place for her baking supplies, and Mixmaster. Paul was able
to design a two-level island that fit nicely in an otherwise small
space, giving them both ample counter space and storage as well as
a raised bar for the couple to enjoy coffee together or grab a quick
snack. The Mixmaster is nestled in a cabinet on pop-up mixer shelf
that easily lowers or raises as needed. The breakfast bar is angled
to facilitate comfortable interpersonal communication rather than
side-by-side seating. Crystal Cabinet Works also provided flour drawers
and bread drawers with clear acrylic sliding lids.
Steve needed a
place to put his briefcase and a place to continue the management
of his restaurants from a central location. Paul designed a desk with
a special space for the briefcase below a window looking out on the
green space behind their home. The desk is complete with a pullout
keyboard drawer, two file drawers, and a pencil drawer with plenty
of desk top space for spreadsheets and paperwork.
Paul designed
a new built-in pantry cabinet with eight rollout shelves and a place
for four
recycle bibs inside. A wine-rack and shelves installed above the sink
to display decorative
bowls enhance the aesthetics of the Craftsman style cherry cabinets.
All-in-all, the
Scholibos are comfortable in their new kitchen and pleased with the
efficiency and convenience of the redesign.
